2019 Annual Dinner

  • Westin St. Francis 335 Powell Street San Francisco, CA 94102 (map)

Join us March 8-10, for the Club’s largest gathering and celebration of the year, as we explore the triumphs and tragedies of speed climbing.

Historically, speed was equated to safety—you had to move efficiently in the mountains to ensure your return. Lately, speed climbing has been portrayed increasingly negatively. As climbers get faster, the risks get bigger. Or do they? Some make the case that speed climbers move more safely than novice climbers. No matter how you look at it, the pursuit of speed has become a polarizing topic and will affect the future of our sport.

The 2019 Annual Benefit Dinner will feature a keynote talk from Colin Haley, an alpinist known for fast ascents of technical routes on mountains all over the world. He focuses on quickly ascending steep alpine faces, including- perhaps most notably- his traverse of The Torres, which took him less than 24-hours.

The weekend is jam packed with something for everyone! This year’s Send n’ Social will be hosted at Mission Cliffs, complete with a celebrity climbing comp, libations, clinics, games, and more. Saturday morning enjoy presentations from the hottest stars in climbing and thought compelling panels. The 2019 Annual Climbing Awards recognize outstanding achievements in conservation, climbing, and service to the climbing community. Winners to be announced soon!
