July 7, 2012, Golden, CO—The American Alpine Club (AAC) is pleased to announce that it will enter a partnership with the Access Fund and Sterling Rope to produce a new special-edition benefit rope. The purpose of the rope is to celebrate and bring awareness to the collaborative efforts of America’s two national climbing organizations—the AAC and Access Fund—and to raise money for their missions.
Sterling Rope, a long-time partner of both the AAC and Access Fund, will donate 10 dollars from the sale of each benefit rope directly to the two non-profit organizations, which work closely and tirelessly to support climbers and protect access to climbing.
The rope is a Velocity 9.8 from Sterling’s Evolution series: one of the best-selling climbing ropes due to its high performance across disciplines, from sport and trad climbing to ice and alpine climbing. The benefit rope features a unique color pattern on the rope sheath: bright green, gray, and black—the colors of the AAC and Access Fund.
The benefit ropes will be produced in both 60-meter and 70-meter lengths. Anyone may purchase a rope through the AAC and Access Fund websites (shop.americanalpineclub.org or accessfund.org/store), from Sterling Rope (sterlingrope.com), and at participating retail stores. The ropes go on sale July 10, 2012.
“Sterling Rope is excited to have been chosen by the AAC and Access Fund to produce this benefit rope,” said John “JB” Branagan, marketing director for Sterling Rope. “We have been a longtime supporter of both organizations and believe strongly in the great work that they do. Offering this special edition product form our top selling Evolution Velocity 9.8mm rope is a perfect way to ‘tie in’ our commitment to support these organizations while helping them to raise awareness of their dedication to the climbing community and to their complimentary missions.”
In addition to raising money for the AAC and Access Fund and championing their work, the new benefit rope is a marker of future cooperation between the AAC and Access Fund, signaling a healthy future for collaborative advocacy on behalf of American climbers.
