Dhaulagiri—at 8,167m (26,795'), is the world's seventh highest mountain and the highest mountain entirely in Nepal. Don't miss this opportunity to hear legendary Austrian climber Kurt Diemberger speak about the first ascent of The White Mountain, which he accomplished in 1960. Kurt will present his show on March 2, the evening before the AAC's Annual Benefit Dinner, and just two weeks before his 80th birthday.

About Kurt:
Kurt Diemberger is the only person alive to have the distinction of making first ascents of two of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks, Broad Peak in 1957 and Dhaulagiri in 1960. He climbed each without supplemental oxygen, and Broad Peak, which he climbed with the late Hermann Buhl and two others, was the first eight-thousander to be climbed in West-Alpine-Style, long before this technique became widely used on the Himalayan giants. Kurt has, in all, climbed six of the world's 8,000-meter peaks, however, he is probably best known for his thirty-year association with K2, and for surviving the 1986 tragedy which claimed the lives of 13 climbers. This became the subject of his first book, “The Endless Knot,” and the award-winning movie “Mountain of Dreams and Destiny.” Kurt is an accomplished writer and filmmaker, and at age 80, is still an active climber. He and Connecticut climber Martin Torresquintero are heading to the Andes in March to climb Volcan San Jose (5,866 m/19,213 ft).
