Meet the Western Regional Coordinator
Jeff Deikis: originally hailing from Ann Arbor, Michigan, learned to climb on the overhanging sandstone of the Red River Gorge, Kentucky. After graduating from the University of Michigan, and embracing the dirt-bag lifestyle, Jeff moved into the bed of his truck and began a four year odyssey exploring the Nation's climbing--from Rumney, New Hampshire to Yosemite Valley, California and everywhere in-between. While coming from a sport climbing and bouldering background, Jeff does enjoy plugging the occasional gear and getting terrified high off the deck. When not on the rock, he can be found trudging into the mountains, snowboard in tow, looking for any line that could inspire him.
More recently, Jeff has made the sunny skies of California his home, living in the Eastern Sierra amongst the juggernaut granite boulders of Bishop.

Arizona Section
What can’t you say about Arizona? This quintessential Southwestern state has boundless climbing on a varitey of rock and with a mostly arid climate, the members can climb year round. The historic Virgin River Gorge slashes through its northwest corner. Just a bit farther south, huge walls abound in the Grand Canyon. Bouldering, sportclimbing, and splitter columnar basalt in Flagstaff. Amazing granite at Cochise Stronghold. The desert sandstone spires in Sedona. And the list goes on and on. Your next climbing destination has practically chosen itself.

The Southwest Section of the American Alpine Club covers all of the fantastic Southern California and Southern Nevada climbing. From classic areas like Joshua Tree, Red Rocks, and Tahquitz to Idyllwild, Malibu, and Mt. Charleston--the Southwest Section hosts more climbing and great weather than most folks know what to do with. The Section is active and growing daily with various climbing-related activities occuring in the Los Angeles area and Las Vegas areas.
____________________________________________________________________________________________
The Sierra Nevada Section is one of the largest and most active sections in the American Alpine Club. With more than 1,200 members living in Northern California and Northern Nevada, they have a long tradition of community and volunteerism that unites members and welcomes all climbers. With the likes of Yosemite Valley, Tuolumne Meadows, Lovers Leap, Donner Summit, Pinnacles National Monument, and Bishop--not to mention the endless granite summits of the Eastern Sierra--there is enough climbing to keep anyone budy for several lifetimes. Sierra Nevada Section members regularly gather at events throughout the year to climb, help preserve crags and mountains, and socialize.

Hawaii Section
When you visit Hawaii on vacation, don’t forget your climbing gear. Maybe few have heard of it, but there is rock on this island chain! Volcanic cliffs abound with great spots that feature sport climbs, bouldering, and even a few trad routes. And if you’re in a wandering mood, just grab your shoes and stroll the beaches for hours—there’s rock here, somewhere!
