American Mountaineering Center Receives $32,000 A/V System for Community Movie Theatre

GOLDEN, CO (July 19, 2011)—In preparation for the Golden Gem Cinema, the Golden Urban Renewal Authority (GURA) has partnered with the American Mountaineering Center to install $32,000 worth of audio-visual equipment in the center’s 350-seat auditorium.

The Cinema, expected to launch late next year, is a project organized by GURA to provide an affordable community movie theatre for residents and visitors.

As the chosen venue for this new venture, the American Mountaineering Center received an AV overhaul, including a 16-foot-wide screen, state-of-the-art projection and sound system, and Blue-ray player.  The Center also plans to build an outside marquis to highlight future movie dates and times.

GURA agreed to install the equipment early as a courtesy to the local organizations that host events in the Mountaineering Center annually, including the DocuWest Film Festival and Colorado Environmental Film Festival.

“This is a unique example of the city coming together with a private organization to benefit the entire Golden community,” said GURA Executive Director, Mark Heller. “We recognized the value of this investment because of the many other organizations that will now have access to this top-of-the-line equipment.”
