The Sierra Nevada Section is one of the largest and most active sections in the American Alpine Club. With more than 1,200 members living in Northern California and Northern Nevada, they have a long tradition of community and volunteerism that unites members and welcomes all climbers. With the likes of Yosemite Valley, Tuolumne Meadows, Lovers Leap, Donner Summit, Pinnacles National Monument, and Bishop--not to mention the endless granite summits of the Eastern Sierra--there is enough climbing to keep anyone budy for several lifetimes. Sierra Nevada Section members regularly gather at events throughout the year to climb, help preserve crags and mountains, and socialize.

Karen Zazzi: As a Northern California native living in Sacremento, Karen spent most of her time water skiing, mountain biking and downhill skiing before checking off a "Bucket List Item" to see Everest and explore Nepal. The Khumbu, Ama Dablam, and the Nepalese people and culture, changed her life. She fell in love with the majesty of the mountains and found her place.
On her return to California, Karen joined guided trips to learn how to climb. It was at the Ouray Ice Festival that she was introduced to the American Alpine Club. A week later, after climbing with Chicks WIth Picks, she became a member of the Club and her world opened up.
In the AAC she found a community of fun, good people who are living their passion. She has continued to meet amazing people and developed terrific friendships along the way—becoming one of the Sierra Nevada Section’s most active volunteers. She is looking forward to giving back to the Section that welcomes all and cares so much for their high places.
