AAC Regional and Section News

The Western Slope Section of the American Alpine Club covers all of the fantastic climbing of Western Colorado—though Members are certainly not opposed to sneaking into the Northern Rockies Section and climbing in nearby Indian Creek. The Section has around 400 Members.

Western Slope Section Chair

lee jenkins headshot.jpgLee Jenkins
started climbing in 1973 in the Washington DC area where Great Falls National Park was his training ground. He soon moved on to Seneca Rocks, WV where he learned to climb Trad. Since then Lee has traveled and climbed all over North America including Alaska, Canada and Mexico. He prefers long Alpine rock routes but also climbs Sport, Trad and Ice on a regular basis. Lee has climbed extensively in the North Cascades and Tetons including Mt. Rainer, Mt. Stuart, Forbidden Peak, the Grand Teton, Middle Teton, Teewinot, Nez Pierce and many others. He has two 'minor' first ascents in the St. Elias range.

Lee has had a successful career in high technology and is now semi-retired, leaving him with plenty of time to enjoy the beautiful mountains around his home in Buena Vista, CO.

Lee has been an AAC member and Access Fund member since 1999 and has organized many stewardship and conservation projects in his region with the AF. He is excited to bring ideas for events, stewardship, and psyche to his new position as Western Slope Section Chair!
