MEET YOUR CHAPTER LEADERSHIP:
Savannah Buik began climbing five years ago after one too many concussions ended her time playing contact sports. Originally from Atlanta, Savannah moved to Chicago in the summer of 2015 to start school at DePaul University. She climbed competitively for a couple of years before she moved on and realized that competitions weren't her speed. Instead, Savannah found that her passion for climbing gravitated toward being outside and teaching others. Although her roots are in the south, Savannah hopes to share her passion with the exponentially growing Chicago climbing community.
Avi Rubinsky is a Chicago resident, originally from Philly, that's been climbing for over a decade and in that time climbing has changed his life. it has taken him around the world and introduced him to the most amazing people (including his wife). He looks forward to growing the AAC's presence in the Chicago area. Avi holds an AMGA single pitch instructor certification, lead and top rope climbing wall certifications and is a Wilderness First Responder. For the last eight years he has been leading backpack, climbing and river rafting expeditions with Outward Bound, an organization that offers experiential wilderness education programs for diverse groups of students. As an Outward Bound Instructor he worked with youth, corporate groups and military veterans. After over 100 courses ranging from 1 day to 3 months, he has fully realized that there is nothing better than the feeling of pushing yourself and others in a positive, supportive environment. For him, climbing is all about growth, both personal and in the community.
Myung Jin-Oh has lived all over Illinois (lots of flatland and cornfields), but for the most part still class Chicago home. Working in Chicago generally means limited access to outdoor climbing, so you will see Myung join the swarms of people heading to the Red River Gorge to climb outdoors or climbing indoors at one of the many gyms in the Chicago area. While relatively new to the scene of climbing, Myung is all about developing all facets of his climbing repertoire, staying active in the climbing community and promoting climbing to all walks of life.
