VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

We can’t pull off the Rodeo without a team of awesome volunteers. With shifts ranging from set up on Thursday to clean up on Sunday, there’s something for everyone. Plus, it’s an easy way to give back to the AAC, Hueco, and the climbing community! Send [email protected] an email to be added!

Hueco Rock Rodeo FAQ’s

Q.  How will the scoring work this year?

A list of problems that will count for scoring will be released the morning of the competition on the official scorecard; a corresponding point value will be assigned to each problem. Your final score will be a total of your top six routes that you climb. In the event of a tie, we’ll refer to the number of attempts to complete the problem so make sure to keep track of those as well.

On the scorecard will be a place for you to record your sends for the day, and signatures of 2 witnesses. Alternatively, you can record a video of your send on your phone. Videos are subject to review in case verification is needed; if neither is available the problem will not count toward the final score.

New this year is automated scoring with the help of our friends at Kaya. You will need to download their app and create a profile (if you haven’t done so already) in order to submit your scores electronically. More information can be found a here.

Q. Where can I camp?

Camping at the Hueco Rock Ranch is not included with your competition registration. Please register for camping at the event registration page.

Camping for this weekend will be first come - first served at any available space within the event camping zone at the Rock Ranch. Space is limited so register early!

There are also a host of other nearby campgrounds and hotels around El Paso a simple web search away!

Q. How do I get into the park on the day of the comp? Can I drive in?

Per our agreement with the park, all competitors must go to the park on a shuttle. Shuttles will be ferrying competitors from the Hueco Rock Ranch beginning on Saturday morning. Please have your pads ready to stack on our trailers that morning for delivery to the park.

Q. Can I come watch the climbing if I’m not competing?

The park will be closed to the public on Saturday, February 17th. Only competitors, guides, volunteers, and media are allowed access to the park. Folks registered with a weekend pass can view the competition as space allows per the limits of the park.

Q. Are any meals included with my registration?

We’ll have breakfast tacos on Saturday morning for competitors to enjoy. Food trucks and a local brewery will be available for you to purchase additional meals throughout the weekend in the evenings.

Q. Can I bring my pet?

From the Hueco Rocks State Park website: “Pets are not allowed on any gravel trails or mountains. Day-use visitors' pets are only allowed on the paved picnic area trail and a short portion of the roadway. Campers' pets are allowed in the campground and along the campground roadway, as well as in the same areas as day-use visitor pets. Pets must be on a leash. Pick up after your pets, and do not leave them alone in a vehicle.

Pets are allowed at the AAC’s Rock Ranch, however be aware that the property will be crowded. They must be leashed at all times, and any waste shall be picked up and disposed of immediately. If you have an aggressive pet, you may be asked to leave with no refund. If you are competing, please see the restrictions on pets in the park and plan accordingly.

Q. Is the competition rain or shine?

No. In order to protect this very fragile resource, the competition is subject to the State Park’s weather policy. If there is a rain event close to the competition, the park will make the final determination.
