National Geographic Explorer of the Year and climber Mike Libecki, defines his life in two ways:
• Irrecoverably subject to OECD (Obsessive Expedition Climbing Disorder): Mike explores the world’s most remote and untouched corners of the planet to find and climb huge, world-class first-ascents. Mike has completed more than 75 major expeditions in search of first ascents all over the planet. His goal is to complete 100 expeditions ranging from Afghanistan to Antarctica, to Greenland to Guyana, to Siberia to Socotra Island and anywhere else of interest in between.
• Dedicated father to his 14 year old daughter Lilliana: Lilliana is committed to helping save the world and explore in her own right. Lilliana has already visited 25 countries and all seven continents, and participated in three expeditions including an Antarctic ski expedition, a Kilimanjaro ascent, a 150-mile trek through the Nepali Himalaya, and a journey through the Peruvian Cordillera Blanca. She has focused these experiences on her humanitarian and conservation work via her own nonprofit organization, the JoyFund.
