Mt. Blanc Trip

Whether you have many notches on the bamboo shaft of your piolet or have never been to the summit of a glaciated peak before; Mt. Blanc could be the adventure you are seeking.

Mt Blanc is the centerpiece of the Chamonix valley and the tallest peak in the Alps. A truly iconic summit with a rich history that is integral to the history of mountaineering. A climb on Mt Blanc combines all the charm of the mountain life style in the Alps with spectacular views, big mountain days, tasty cuisine, and the wonderful European hut experience.

AAC is partnering with American Guide Service Mahoney Alpine Adventures to provide a 2:1 client:guide ratio for our trip. Kevin Mahoney is a internationally certified guide through IFMGA in ski mountaineering, rock and alpine climbing. Additionally, Kevin is the recipient of the 2016 Underhill Award, and past winner of the Copp/Dash Inspired Award, Lyman Spitzer Award, Mugs Stump Award, Golden Piton Award for various climbs across the world.


August 12:

Fly into Geneva and travel to the Chamonix valley. We will enjoy a kick off dinner and get to know each other and our guides before tucking into our beds in town.

August 13:

This day is used to shake off the jet lag, a skill assessment day as well as the first step in acclimatizing. We will climb the Petite Vert from the Grand Montet tram above the town of Argientiere. Sleep in Chamonix.

August 14 & 15:

We will move up high and stay at either the Cosmique Hut or the Torino Hut and spend the two days climbing peaks such as Point Lachenal, Tour Ronde, Aiguiles Entreves, Arrete des Cosmique. Each climb offers spectacular views of the Mt Blanc Massif with a combination of rock, snow and glacier climbing. We will stay high in a hut on the 14th, and sleep back down in Chamonix on the 15th.

August 16 & 17:

After waking up in Chamonix we will head up high to the Tete Rousse Hut at 3187M/10,456FT. From Le Houches we take the Bellevue Telepherique up to the tramway Mt Banc ending at Nid D’Aigle 2,370M/7,775FT. After a 2.5 hour hike we arrive at the Tete Rousse hut. From here we will start our summit bid on Mt Blanc. The climb starts with a 600M climb of the grand Couloir, beyond the Gouter Hut and onto the Gouter Dome and to the summit of Mt Blanc. The climb consists of 1,621M/5,319FT over 6-7 hours with a 4-5 hours descent to the Tete Rousse Hut where we will spend another night.

August 18:

After breakfast at the Tete Rousse Hut we will head back into Chamonix. After a bit of rest and relaxation, we will head out to dinner to celebrate our week in the Alps! Sleep in Chamonix.

August 19:

We will travel back to Geneva and fly home (or for those of you who haven't had enough of the Alps, you are welcome to extend your trip and explore everything that the Chamonix Valley has to offer!

The Geneva airport will be the airport you fly into. It is about an hour outside of Chamonix and has many flight options. We will travel as a group to Chamonix, and back again at the end of the trip.
