You're a backcountry skier or snowboarder, and backcountry riding is inherently alpine. You need rescue insurance, gear discounts, and lodging options, plus a community-oriented approach to help you get out & get after it all winter. We've got you covered! Accidents happen. As backcountry users, it is our responsibility to be prepared and also to have a backup plan. If the worst should happen on your human-powered backcountry adventure, though, we've got your back. Your AAC membership includes: 

  • Up to $7,500 of Global Rescue Trailhead Rescue Services (available worldwide)
  • Up to $5,000 of Domestic Rescue Benefits (available in the U.S. only)
  • Additional Global Rescue benefits can be purchased by AAC members at a 5% discount

From Alaska to Chile to Europe, we've got the cabins, huts and discounts to facilitate your dream backcountry ski or snowboard trip. Some highlights: 

AAC Snowbird Hut: Nestled in the southern Talkeetna Mountains, this is a first come, first serve base-camp for skiing, hiking, and climbing. Visit the Snowbird Hut page.

Mazama Lodge: Located on the slopes of Mount Hood. AAC members stay from $20/night. 

Sorcerer Lodge: This lodge in Golden, British Columbia, offers a 25% discount (not including helicopter) for self-guided groups on the shoulder seasons. 
Canadian Huts: The Alpine Club of Canada offers ACC member rates at 24 huts run by the national club.

South America:
Refugio Cochamo: AAC members can stay in the newly built B&B Refugio Cochamo bunk room for $15 a night and camp for $4.50 per person per night from Jan. 15 through February or $3 a night during the low season. 

AAC members receive discounts through UIAA European Hut Stamps, which work in Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Liechtenstein, Spain and Switzerland. More details.

  • Don't forget that the AAC Library has an incredible array of books to assist you in trip planning and route planning, all available to ship to members for free!
  • The AAC and Jones Snowboards are partnering to announce two new grants just for splitboarders:
    The Jones Backcountry Adventure Grant & the womens-only Jones Live Like Liz Award
  • The AAC Live Your Dream grant is for all ages and disciplines. Objectives involving ski or snowboard mountaineering components are funded in part through the Hans Saari Memorial Fund. 
  • You can use our Member Share feature to connect with skiers and riders who share objectives, have beta about your next line, or have a couch for you to crash on during your next ski trip.
