San Diego Chapter Holiday Party

Join us at our inaugural holiday party featuring a presentation by the AAC's 2016 Live Your Dream Grants recipients, BIIIIG raffle, silent auction, photo contest and some great local brews! Tickets will include access to the exclusive event, 1 raffle ticket and 2 Helix craft brews!

Additional raffle tickets will be available for purchase.

Photo contest: AAC members are encouraged to submit your photo or photos with you as the subject in the following categories: Bouldering, Roped Trad, Roped Sport, Ice, Alpine/Mountaineering, AAC Colors. "AAC Colors" means that the AAC logo must be visible somewhere in the photo. Limit one photo per member, per category.    Contest will be judged by peers. Must be present to win.  Winners in each category will be awarded gear prizes (i.e.: Ice = 1 ice screw. Trad = 1 cam).  Submit your photos to [email protected]    Deadline is Dec 2nd.

A Past-President of the American Alpine Club, Jim Donini and his wife Angela live part of the year in Ouray, Colorado and part of the year in Patagonia, Chile. To refresh folk’s memories of Jim’s climbing exploits please take a look at his bio available on several Internet sites, e.g.,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Donini. Jim’s climbs around the world and in particular at Yosemite, Alaska, and Patagonia make him one of our legends of climbing. He is also a model of hope to those of us over “50.”

Join the Southwest Section of the American Alpine Club for an evening of old and new friends, mouth watering food and spirits, a bro’ deal level silent auction and raffle, and—most of all—a the extraordinary Libby Sauter.

Experience the exceptional stoke of Libby’s work as a renowned bad-ass not only on the wall but also in conflict zone medical centers around the world. Her accomplishments are remarkable and inspirational: Notable among these are the women’s speed-climbing record on Yosemite’s legendary El Cap Nose route with partner Mayan Smith-Gobat as well a first ascent on the remote Patagonian wall El Hermano in northern Chile (first ascent: Cenizas a Cenizas ~ 4’000 ft, 5.11R A3).

When not tearing up stunning walls, Libby works as healer: both as a trauma nurse and pediatric intensive care unit nurse educator. Her specialty is caring for young cardiac patients in war-torn countries like Iraq, Libya and Ukraine as well as areas devastated by natural disasters such as Nepal. She has the stoke to go where needed! Don’t miss out on Libby’s reflections on her journeys and the importance of maintaining a global perspective!

San Diego Chapter: Gym To Crag Clinic Weekend

Day clinic intended for gym climbers looking to become more comfortable and competent transitioning to the crag. We will have 2-4 instructors working with a max of 12 participants with a focus on climbing outdoors. Topics we will cover include equipment, proper packing, trail and wall ethics, toprope setup and anchoring, belay techniques, objective and subject hazards, and having an awesome time!

This event will cost $10 for AAC Members and $20 for non-members. It will include:  A full day of instruction.    We'll most likely hit up "Alpine" Beer Company in Alpine after. 

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: climbing harness, climbing shoes, pack, belay device and locking carabiner, water, lunch (x2). Optional equipment: 48 inch nylon sling, cordellete, quickdraws, and a personal anchoring system.

Volunteer to help restore and improve climber access paths and staging areas at one of your favorite Pinnacles crags.

A non refundable $10 registration fee will hold your spot and give you the following benefits: Park admission, group camping,Saturday night BBQ, Gear Raffle (1 raffle ticket included, more can be purchased), commemorative T-Shirt, a chance to bid on silent auction items and climbing on Sunday. WOW!

Fees will also help fund rebolting of anchors and routes within the park.

Join Friends of Pinnacles, Pinnacles Partnership, the California Wildlands Grassroots Fund of Rose Foundation, the Access Fund, the American Alpine Club, Mountain Tools and Pacific Edge Climbing Gym in support of the Pinnacles Trail Crew at our newest National Park.

The American Alpine Club will be there to talk about the Universal Belay Standard and our new educational standards.

Come crush some plastic and swap belays at Mesa Rim Climbing Gym -- Mission Valley at 6:00pm for a couple hours before heading over to nearby Thorn Street Brewery at 8:00pm to quench the sending thirst. We'll be doing a small raffle ($2/ticket) for the chance to win a couple pints of FREE BEER and some sweet AAC swag. Come to climb or later to beer.....or to both!

Bring your friends over to our table to find our what the AAC is all about or come and swap high fives cause you dig your rescue benefits. Wear your AAC gear to show your support and remember to bring your valid AAC Membership Card to Thorn Street!

The Belay and Beers Social is intended for AAC Members to get together on a monthly basis to celebrate the local community. Get your climb and socializing on!

Tahoe Sports Hub Boulder Bash

We are happy to announce that the third annual Tahoe Sports Hub Boulder Bash will take place September 24th in Truckee California. This all-levels bouldering competition and climbing festival features a bouldering competition on Donner Summit, free beginner climbing clinics on School Rock, an after party and awards ceremony at Donner Ski Ranch. All events are open to the public and the free after party will include food and drink specials, a live raffle, and live music.

We are offering a free beginner climbing clinic with the pros from NASTC from 1:00-3:00 on 9/24/16. All participants must pre-register at EVENTBRITE.

A portion of proceeds will go to our chosen non profit beneficiary, the local chapter of the American Alpine Club.

Join the US Forest Service and local climbers for a community lead trail day. Trailhead replacement, parking lot delineation, and general clean up of new The Sandy's Canyon trailhead.

Project list and orientation begins at 8:30am. Project ends at 1pm.

Breakfast and Coffee 8am - 830am.
