  • The USA Ice Climbing Selection Committee will

    1. Select eight (8) men and eight (8) women for both speed and lead, for a potential 32 unique competitors. Top six (6) ranked athletes receive first choice of events.

    2. Field all team slots by an annual USA Ice Climbing Team Tryouts with the following amendments:

    (a) Athletes qualifying for finals for a UIAA Ice Climbing World Cup event (Does not include Continental or European Cups) during the previous season will receive an automatic team slot within ranks 1-6. Pre-qualified athletes are exempt from tryouts but must meaningfully participate in the management of USA Ice Climbing Team Tryouts.

    (b) Selection committee maintains the option to select no more than 1x discretionary spot in ranks 1-6 for each category, allocated in the spirit of making the most competitive team. This option might not be used every year.

  • Tom Beirne, Glen Griscom, Tessie Bailey, Micah Day, Marcus Garcia

Athlete Representatives: Ryan McCauley, Tyler Kempney, Angela Limbach, Roz Reynolds

Note: Athlete representatives do not take part in the individual selection of athletes to the team, rather they serve as the athlete voice to the selection process and speak on behalf of the athletes.

  • Athletes will receive a team uniform that they will be required to wear during any international competitions between Nov 2023 and June 2024.

Athletes will be expected to make their own travel arrangements once notified.

Athletes (and parents when the athlete is a minor) will be required to sign and abide by a code of conduct set by the AAC. Athletes who violate the code of conduct will be warned and may be removed from the team at the discretion of the AAC and the team manager.

The AAC and the team manager will work to provide monetary and product support through fundraising and grants. Athletes will be expected to support these initiatives as well. Financial support is not a guarantee and athletes must be prepared to fully support themselves for all travel related expenses.

Athletes are expected to behave as part of a team, giving and receiving morale support to and from their team members.

Athletes will act as American Alpine Club and US ambassadors to the domestic and international climbing communities and are expected to obey the rules and regulations of the host country in which they are climbing.
