Library FAQ

How do I login?

You must contact us to create a Library Account.

Go to: booksearch.americanalpineclub.org
Go to Log in to your account either on the left side or in the top right corner

If you are having trouble, give us a call at the library at 303-384-0112 or email us.

How do I request items?

  • Start by search by keyword, title, author or whatever you’re looking for.

  • When you find something you want, look at “Availability” to see if it’s on the shelf.

  • If it says "Items available for reference," that means it does not circulate. We have a large collection of books that cannot leave the library.

  • Okay, so you found a book that’s available. Now click "Get It Now!"

  • That will bring you to another page to confirm your hold. Click "Place hold."

  • You are done now. We will get the request, mail your books to you and notify you when they ship out. Make sure your mailing address is current. If you live in the Denver-metro area and want to pick it up at the library, please let us know ASAP so we don’t mail it to you.

How long does it take for the books to reach me?

We use USPS Media Mail, which takes 7-10 days. The closer you live to Denver, the faster you will get the books.

How many books/dvds can I get?

You can checkout up to 10 items *maximum of 5 audiovisual items.

How long can I have these books/dvds?

35 days.

Can I keep them longer?

Yes. Login to booksearch.americanalpineclub.org to renew them. If you need to renew them again, give us a call at the library at 303-384-0112 or email us.

Are there fines if I return my book late?
Yes, checkout periods are 35 days with a 14 day grace period to allow for any shipping issues. After the grace period a fine of 10 cents per item each day will begin to accrue. We understand that life happens so if you know a book is going to arrive a reasonable time after the grace period communicate with us and we can waive any accrued fines. To avoid late fees you can renew books that are not on hold by another member through your library profile, or by calling or emailing us.

The library reserves the right to assess lost material charges if items are not returned due to the limited print runs of many mountaineering books in the collection and other unique features of this library. If we are unable to collect the lost book or video charges for any reason, a member or Library Friend immediately loses library privileges and will also lose his/her membership.
